Membership and Tuition Fees



MYC is an incorporated association run by a voluntary Board of Management.

To join MYC, parents/carers of new choristers must become members of the organisation.  The annual membership fee is $10 for families.  Membership fees contribute to the cost of insurance premiums for public liability and volunteer insurance.  Membership provides adults with a right to vote at the Annual General Meeting of the association.  The membership fee is reviewed at each Annual General Meeting.  

New and existing members will receive an emailed invitation from CareMonkey (MYC's enrolment database) to pay membership fees when they fall due.


For 30 years, MYC has been managed by volunteers and has paid a team of professional music teachers to provide a rigorous rehearsal program each week of the school term.  Historically, tuition fees were used to cover all operational costs of rehearsals.   Despite our best efforts to keep these fees to a minimum, we knew that many families in the Casey region were struggling to pay fees - which prevented their children from joining the choir. 

So we've scrapped this old model of fee-based tuition and now offer fee-free rehearsals to all who wish to join in the fun!   We still pay our music staff and it still costs us money to provide learning materials like sheet music and to do the work of marketing and recruitment necessary to ensure that those who want to access our program hear about us.  

We are very grateful to Federation University Australia who donate us the use of their wonderful venue for our rehearsals.

Starting 2018 we rely 100% on private donations, and funding from government, trusts and foundations and other philanthropic sources.


2018 marks a sea-change for the Melbourne Youth Chorale.  We are realising our dream of ensuring that every child has the access and opportunity to receive MYC's gift of music.

We thank the City of Casey for selecting MYC as a worthy recipient of its Performing Arts Sponsorship Grant 2018-2020.  This much needed funding provides a quarter of the money needed to run rehearsals.   Grants from other sources do not usually offer money for operational expenses, so we rely on private donations from our members and from the general public to make up the shortfall of $15,000 (2018) to run rehearsals in 2018.

Commencing February 2018, MYC has introduced "Donate What You Can Afford" .   This is a giving program for members to make an obligation free contribution to MYC's donation fund.   All donations are fully tax deductible.

Donations are used by MYC's Board of Management (all volunteers) to cover operational costs of running rehearsals, administrative costs such as website management, marketing, printing etc.
